Parent to Parent Letter 2
Dear Prospective Regina Family,
The life of a parent is filled with many
decisions to be made, both large and small. Decisions regarding your
daughter’s future are certainly among the most important and cry out
for your energy and effort. What parents do not want the best for
their daughters?
This is the reason we are writing you today: to
share our belief that Regina High School is a great choice for you.
The tradition of excellence that characterizes
Regina dates back to 1956. Since its founding, Regina has
strengthened and expanded its mission for the education and moral
training of young Catholic women. In fact, we hold several graduates
very dear to our hearts.
As graduates, ourselves, of Regina High School
and Notre Dame High School, we know first-hand the benefits of a
Catholic single-gender education. All four of our daughters have
attended RHS – the oldest, Joanna, enrolling in 1995 at the old
Harper Woods campus, followed by Katie, and Mary Margaret. The
youngest, Carrie, is set to graduate with the Class of 2008 from the
brand new Warren campus. Throughout all these years, we have
maintained our conviction that Regina has been a great school for
all of them.
Great schools, like all the great loves of our
lives, do require great sacrifices. Tuition payments are not easy.
Sacrificing, in this case, however, was less difficult for us
because the benefits were so easily observable in each of our
daughters.
Certainly the education they received was worth
the sacrifice. Our daughters were challenged and stimulated to the
best of their abilities. They have taken traditional classes, honors
classes, and Advanced Placement classes. They have studied under
top-notch teachers, and they have enjoyed reasoned and thought
provoking class discussions with disciplined and focused classmates.
They have learned to study hard, to manage their time, and to meet a
deadline. The three daughters who have already graduated were well
prepared and ready for college.
In addition, the way our daughters embraced the
“Regina Culture” made our sacrifice worthwhile. They found
encouraging mentors among the staff. They found friends from good
families and would list these friendships they have forged as high
points in their high school lives. They joined many school
activities and found both fun and meaning in them. They had many
opportunities for leadership and service and quickly learned that
excuses don’t help, but hard work does.
Most importantly, our sacrifices allowed our
daughters to have four years of religion classes which afforded them
the time and opportunity to internalize and personalize their faith.
Regina’s Christian Service requirement also let them see the result
of their “lived faith” in the wider community. The presence of Jesus
and the Blessed Mother truly is in the halls of Regina High School.
As you are looking to your daughter’s future and
weighing the pros and cons of a Catholic education, we urge you to
consider Regina. We can say with great confidence that your
sacrifices will reap great rewards for your daughter. I know this
decision takes time and care. You may have more questions about
Regina, and there are people there who are excited to answer them.
If you need anything, don’t hesitate to call. That’s what they’re
there for! If you would like to email us with any questions
