Capital Campaign Updates (09/04/2007)

Meet the Capital Campaign Chairs

This edition featuring Rosemary Wlodarczyk

Rosemary Wlodarczyk is a 1977 Graduate of Regina High School.  She grew up on the eastside of Detroit with her parents and siblings.  After high school Rosemary moved to Florida working as a Media Coordinator and Legislative Aide to Senator Ken Jenne.  Upon returning to Michigan she attended the U of M receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Broadcast Communications.  Rosemary worked as a Journalist with Fox 2 Detroit for 5 years until taking her current position as Producer at WXYZ Channel 7 Detroit 10 years ago.  Rosemary produces Action News at Noon with Carolyn Clifford, Robbie Timmons and Dave Rexroth.  She has won 3 Emmy Awards from the Michigan Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, & the Award for Broadcast Excellence from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters.

When asked why she accepted the position of Co-chair for the Capital Campaign, Rosemary had this to say.. "Regina High School has always held a special place in my heart.  Since my sister Carol Ann (1974) attended Regina, I also wanted to follow in her footsteps.  My parents insisted on a Catholic education for all of their children.  Because of their dedication and love, we accomplished so much in our lives."

"The 50th Anniversary Mass at Regina High School brought back the fondest memories of good friends and good times.  During the course of the Mass I was filled with pride and gratitude to be so blessed to be an alumnus of such a fine Catholic school.  This celebration was a turning point for me, and I knew I wanted to be actively involved in Regina.  When approached to be a co-chair of the Capital Campaign I couldn't be happier.   It was a way to insure that Regina High School would continue to educate fine young women in Catholic tradition for generations to come, at the new Warren location.  Many of my fellow alumni expressed regret that the Harper Woods location was closing and Regina was moving.  But life is about growth and new experiences.  It will always be Regina, regardless of where it is located, and future generations will form their own lifelong bonds and memories.  We should all thank our parents and families who put their trust in Regina to turn young women into fine members of the community.  Being a part of this incredible future is special and fulfilling.  The Capital Campaign Committee is well on its way to securing the donations necessary to meet our goal."

Featuring Gregory and Phyllis DeMars.

Greg DeMars is a senior partner at Honigman, Miller, Schwartz, and Cohn, LLP in downtown Detroit. Phyllis is a special needs/resource teacher at Our Lady Star of the Sea. They are products of Catholic education, and are dedicated to it, sending their son Greg to De La Salle and their daughters Sara and Bethany to Regina. They joke about being goaded into the positions of co-chairs for this campaign – but their focus, efforts and commitment to date shows it didn’t take much to make them comfortable in their roles.

“My wife and I are pleased to be co-chairs working with a group of other dedicated members of the Regina community in connection with the Capital Campaign – Building Our Future, for Regina High School. This is a historical moment for Regina as it moves from Harper Woods, Michigan to Warren, Michigan into a new facility. As parents, with a daughter who has graduated and one about to graduate, we feel that this important mission of Regina High School in educating its students in the Catholic traditions must continue. Regina has a unique position in the community as being the only all girls Catholic college preparatory high school on the eastside of the Detroit metropolitan area. We support the Regina mission fully and we believe that it is one that the community should embrace.”

Greg and Phyllis are residents of Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan. You can meet the DeMars, and all the campaign leadership when you join us at the Under the Boardwalk dinner dance at Andiamo’s, Warren on June 14, 2007.

REGINA HIGH SCHOOL – Building Our Future !

On Thursday, April 19, 2007, our Principal, Sister Mary Leanne Leszczynski, Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis (SSJ-TOSF), the Capital Campaign Leadership Team, and Regina’s Board of Directors introduced the components and needs of our Capital Campaign – Building Our Future!

“Simply put, this campaign allows us to continue to fulfill the mission and ministry of Regina High School, in the Franciscan tradition” said Sr. Leanne. “Regina has been a strong presence in the metropolitan Detroit community for over 50 years.”

Mrs. Janet Sossi Belcoure, Alumnae Parent and owner of Roma Cafe’, and Mrs. Flora Pelino Tersigni, Class of 1967, former faculty member and Alumnae Parent, are the Honorary Chairs for the $5 million comprehensive campaign.

The campaign is being chaired by Mr. Greg and Mrs. Phyllis DeMars, Current Parents, Ms. Rosemary Wlodarczyk, Class of 1977, Mrs. Ann Agrusa Agosta, Class of 1964, and Mrs. Joyce Kierschke Rondini, Class of 1964.

“I have often considered getting involved with Regina in a meaningful way,” said Honorary Chair Jan Belcoure. “I truly view this program as an opportunity to position Regina for the future and give back to an institution that has had such an impact on my daughter.”

“The success of this campaign will allow us to address the spiritual, academic, athletic, and administrative needs of the school as prioritized by our community”, said Mary Ann Goll, Advancement Director for Regina. “The campaign has two components: construction and renovation of the Warren campus and an endowment fund.” Cash and pledges in the six figures have been secured to date.

“We want to ensure that our students will receive an outstanding, quality education, in a state-of-the-art facility, yet be sensitive to the need to maintain an affordable tuition,” said Ms. Pamela Zarkowski, Class of 1971, President of the Board of Directors.

Our school is moving in July, 2007 to the new campus in Warren, making it the only school of its kind in Macomb County. Enrollment for next year has jumped significantly. We continue to serve students from numerous areas in the Detroit metropolitan area.
