Regina Government Classes Working To Make a Difference in Congress!
Teacher Deborah Biondo worked with her Government students to write Senator Stabenow expressing their concern to stop student loan interest rates from doubling in July. With one hundred percent of all Regina students going on to college, this is an important concern for many. "Student loan debt recently topped a trillion dollars," Biondo said discussing the importance of this issue. "This debt is higher than U.S. auto loan debt and higher than U.S. credit card debt. If the interest rates double, the average student will pay a thousand dollars more in interest."
Senator Stabenow is co-author of the bill S. 2051 that will keep current interest rates and Regina students sent letters urging her to pass it. "I showed my students how to research bills heading into committee. We looked for a bill that was sponsored or co-sponsored by one of our state senators," Biondo continued. "When we discovered S. 2051, the class knew they had to write to Senator Stabenow." Stabenow responded via email and Mrs. Biondo read her response during her classes. National Day of Prayer
Members of the St. Clare Franciscan Society were invited to attend the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Warren City Hall. In Warren, the National Day of Prayer has been a tradition in the city for decades. Regina High School was very proud to have students representing the school on this day.

On Friday, May 11, 2012, freshmen and senior students enjoyed a Big Sister/Little Sister breakfast to celebrate the bond that developed between the two grades and friendships that were made over the past year.
With the seniors about to graduate, their little sisters put on a breakfast as a token of their appreciation. Regina High School is proud of the big sister/little sister program and what it stands for at the school.

Congratulations to senior Alicia Speak for being named to the Macomb County All-Academic Team. On April 25, 2012, Alicia and her parents, Stephen and Mary Speak, joined with the families of other area scholars to salute these dedicated students at a banquet hosted by Penna’s of Sterling.
The first All-Academic Team was chosen in 1986. Each year a committee of high school principals and The Macomb Daily select honorees based on cumulative grade point averages and ACT/SAT scores. This year 50 students in public and private Macomb County Class A-D schools received recognition.
Alicia plans to attend the University of Michigan and major in pre-medicine. The faculty at Regina High School is proud of Alicia and her accomplishments and wishes her God’s blessings as she journeys forth.
Regina High School Students Soar in AP Program
Regina High School strives to prepare young women for the challenges of the 21st century through its highly successful Advanced Placement (AP) program. This extensive AP program allows students to earn college credits and learn at the college level. Currently, eight AP tests are offered in Science, Math, Social Studies and English.
In 2011, 77% of the graduating class earned a passing score or higher on at least one AP test. This greatly surpasses the average for the State of Michigan (15% for seniors in 2010, the most recent data available). In addition, nearly 19% of the graduating class was recognized with the distinction of "AP Scholar" or higher, identifying a student who received passing scores or higher on three or more AP tests.
Regina NHS members participate in Walkathon
On April 29, 2012, Regina High School NHS members participated in the National Honor Society Walkathon to benefit the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. NHS moderators Kathleen Stewart and Carolyn Tarpley supervised the activiting.
"NHS has done a walkathon for years. One of the four pillars of NHS is service to school and to community so the walkathon was outreach to the Capuchins and to the community they serve with whom we share the Franciscan identity," Stewart said. "God blessed us with a sunny and breezey day for our students to walk!"
